Toddler born with 'clown-nose' birthmark spends two hours in surgery to get a 'face like Mummy's'

By JOANNA CORRIGAN

Connie at three months after the birthmark had grown to cover her nose

For three years, she had to put up with cruel taunts because of a condition that left her with a bright red 'clown nose' just weeks after she was born.

Her mother had to resort to hiding Connie Lloyd's face when they went to the doctors because people made such 'horrible' comments.

But now Connie has a new lease of life after surgery to remove the blemish, which actually marked the existence of a tumour.

Following her three-and-a-half hour operation, a delighted Connie proclaimed that she now had a 'nose like her mum's'.

The little girl had a haemangioma - a benign tumour

Her mother, from Slough, Berkshire, said: 'When we saw her nose we were amazed. She looked like a different child but we knew it was our Connie.'

Doctors had spotted a shadow on Connie's nose at the 26-week scan but when she was born in September 2008, she appeared perfectly healthy.

Two weeks later, her parents Zara and Tom spotted their daughter's nose was turning bright red. What started as a tiny dot quickly grew to 4cm wide.

Their GP referred them to a skin specialist at Great Ormond Street Hospital, who diagnosed the baby with haemangioma - a benign tumour.

Happy: Connie following the successful operation to remove the mark

Connie became only the eighth baby in the UK to try the drug Propranolol - used for heart conditions - to stop the growth becoming larger.

But her parents were told there was no cure and also warned she could even bleed to death if her nose was scratched or bruised.

Her mother searched for anyone who could help and eventually located surgeon Dr Iain Hutchison who specialises in treating facial disfigurements.

He operated on Connie in March, working to remove the tumour and leaving her with just a small scar.

Connie in the womb at 32 weeks, with the mark visible on her nose

'We were constantly worried. The doctors said if she cut or grazed it, she could bleed to death. There were treatments to stop it getting bigger but nothing to get rid of it.'

'It was the longest two hours of my life when Connie was in the theatre. When she came out of the operation she said her nose was like her mum's.

'Now she is doing really well, she has a big group of friends and we are so proud of her.'

She added: 'It's nice not to have to deal with the cruel comments any more but, red nose or not, Connie has always been our perfect little girl.'

Octomom Nadya Suleman reveals the gruesome body scars from her pregnancy

War wounds: Octomom Nadya Suleman revealed her midriff at a celebrity boxing match in Miami over the weekend

She managed to lose her baby weight in mere months following the birth of her octuplets.

But Nadya Suleman, who delivered her eight babies via C-section, still bears a reminder of her high risk pregnancy.

The 36-year-old mother of 14 revealed stretched and scarred skin on her lower stomach and sides at a boxing match over the weekend.

Body after babies: The mother has previously denied undergoing a tummy tuck

The reality TV phenomenon, who has 14 children all under the age of ten, allowed the pictures to be taken of her midriff before entering the ring.

She has previously denied reports she underwent a tummy tuck surgery following the birth of the octuplets, insisting she lost the weight - and extra skin - naturally.

'No way,' she responded when asked if she had had surgery by America's Star magazine in January.

What a bump: Nadya and her bump pre birth

'I wanted to prove to myself that I can do it on my own, naturally. My friends call my Rubber Band because I always snapped back so quickly after my other kids!'

She also criticised reality TV star Kate Gosselin, who had twins and sextuplets, for going under the knife.

'I feel like it's cheating,' she said. 'It's her choice. If she has enough money to fix herself, let her. I have a better shape, though. I'm sorry, no offense to her.'

New gig: The mother of 14 last week took part in a celebrity boxing match

Suleman became internationally famous when she gave birth to her eight babies – two daughters and six sons – in January 2009 after conceiving them through in vitro fertilisation.

Noah, Isaiah, Nariyah, Josiah, Jeremiah, Jonah, Maliyah and Makai are only the second full set of octuplets to be born alive in the U.S. – and not all of the previous set survived longer than the first week.

Ultraviolet: Denise Lewis and Helen Chamberlain strip off and dazzle in neon paint for cancer charity's nighttime walk

By GEORGINA LITTLEJOHN

All aglow: Olympic gold medallist Denise Lewis dazzles in neon paint for Cancer Research

It's the sort of body art that is usually adorned by clubbers as they dazzle as they dance the night away under a party's UV lights.

But neon paint can also be a rather effective away of drawing attention to yourself in others way, say for a worthy cause - as two sexy sporting personalities have proved.

Former heptathlon medallist Denise Lewis and Sky's Sports' Soccer AM presenter Helen Chamberlain stripped off and got decorated in UV paint to support Cancer Research.

Electrifying: Helen Chamberlain's hair stands on end as she poses in the UV designs that adorn her upper body

The ladies looked stunning as they modelled the designs - inspired by microscopic images of cancer cells and painted by body paint artist Carolyn Roper.- to show their support for Shine, the UK charity's night-time walking marathon.

Both Helen, 44, and Denise, 38, have a connection to the disease and were happy to pose for the campaign.

Shining bright: Swimmer Mark Foster is splashed with designed that were inspired by microscopic cancer cells

The event, which takes place in Glasgow on September 10 and in London on October 1, hopes to raise more than £1 million.

It has been designed to symbolise the light that Cancer Research UK's doctors, nurses and scientists bring to the lives of people affected by cancer through life-saving research, and participants can choose to walk either the full marathon or a half marathon route.

The charity says people can dedicate the money they raise to a specific area of cancer research, including breast cancer, lung cancer and leukaemia.

I’m supersizing to be the world’s fattest woman, says 52st mother of two (but she’s only halfway there)

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Weigh to go: Susanne Eman posing with her two sons, Gabriel, left, 16, and Brendin, right, 12, and their dog Sisco, 6, at their home in Casa Grande, Arizona

Obese model Susanne Eman is saying 'Supersize Me' for real - in her bid to become the fattest woman ever.

The 52-stone bombshell aims to reach a whopping 115 stone, or 1,600lbs, by guzzling at least 20,000 calories a day.

Susanne, 32, from Arizona, USA, hopes to pass the half way milestone of 57 stones by the end of the year.

Little and large: Ms Eman poses back to back with her sister Cassie, 26

The single mum-of-two believes she's already overtaken former biggest mum Donna Simpson, 43, from New Jersey, who weighs 50 stones.

And Susanne - who is creating a stir among fans of 'Super Size Big Beautiful Women' (SSBBWs) - plans to increase her calorie-intake to keep gaining.

‘I'd love to find out if it's humanly possible to reach a ton,’ she said. ‘A previous record holder was 1,600lbs (115 stone) , so I have to be at least that.

Supermarket sweep: Ms Eman spends an incredible eight hours stocking up for the month

‘I take my blood pressure once a week, and every day, after I exercise, I take readings of my other vitals. I use a pulse oximeter to measure the concentration of oxygen in my blood stream.

‘And I take my blood sugar levels just like a diabetic. If either of the readings go above a certain level, I'll immediately contact my doctor for advice.

‘If I was to get sick, I've arranged for my sister to take care of my kids.

Heavy going: Ms Eman takes regular health checks, left, but insists that the bigger she gets, the better she feels

‘I tell them that everybody likes different things. If I'm making something fatty and they want something healthy, then I make us different meals.’

‘I want to break the stigma that being fat is a bad thing,’ she said. ‘I remind other fat people that it is OK for them to be that way.

‘The message I want to get across is for people to accept others for who they are.’

She wasn't always obese: Ms Eman aged 19 with her two sons, Brendin, centre, and Gabriel, right, in 1998

We've frozen time! They've never been near a surgeon's knife. So how have these women defied ageing?

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Suzan Clements (left) is 52; Jill Thornton (centre) is 57 and Teresa Fuller (right) is 66

As women nationwide spend thousands in the ongoing quest for eternal youth, three over-fifties who have been surgery-free all their lives share the secret of how they defied the ageing process...

SUZAN, 52, STOPPED AGEING AT 42

Suzan Clements works as a land and country house estate agent, and also runs an import business. She is divorced with a 19-year-old daughter and lives in the village of Gedling, Nottinghamshire.

'I'm a true believer in health and vitality coming from within,' said Suzan Cements who stopped ageing at 42 (left). She is now 52 (right)

I appreciate that a lot of looking young for your age is down to good genes — and luck — but there are certain things that help. I’m a great believer in the health properties of Chinese puerh tea. I drink it every day, and it’s said to be a great metabolism booster. Victoria Beckham is apparently a fan.

I’m a true believer in health and vitality coming from within — that I’ve ‘thought’ myself younger. And long may it continue.

JILL, 57, STOPPED AGEING AT 44

Jill Thornton, 57, is a pilates instructor from Guildford. She is married to consultant gastroenterologist John and has three sons, Alex, 28, James, 26, and 20-year-old Miles.

'I took up pilates 13 years ago after three pregnancies left me with a weak back and I think I stopped ageing around then, at 44 (left),' said Jill Thornton who is now 57 (right)

I took up pilates 13 years ago after three pregnancies left me with a weak back and I think I stopped ageing around then, at 44.

The pain and restricted movement I suffered was very draining. I felt I moved like an old lady, which left me feeling like one, too.

The gentle pilates exercises I took up really helped — toning and strengthening deep abdominal muscles, which helped my back so much.

In fact, my experience with pilates was so positive I decided to train as an instructor and qualified in 2000. Now I teach eight classes a week, plus one-to-one sessions.

I think pilates keeps me looking young because it affects the way I move, which is always such a giveaway in older women.

TERESA, 66, STOPPED AGEING AT 49

Teresa Fuller, 66, is a support worker from Downham Market, Norfolk. She has two grown-up sons, Marcus, 39, and James, 35, and a four-year-old grandson, Matthew. She is also a diet consultant.

'It took me six months to get to my target weight of nine-and-a-half stone. Finally, I could love my body,' said Teresa Fuller who stopped ageing at 49 (left). She is 66 (right)

That’s when I saw an advert for the Cambridge Weight Plan in the newspaper and decided to go for it.

The plan involves replacing meals with calorie-controlled soups and shakes, and weekly one-to-one sessions with a counsellor. I couldn’t just cut down on carbs, or cut out desserts — for me it had to be all or nothing, which is why I picked such a strict regime.

It wasn’t easy, but it took me six months to get to my target weight of nine-and-a-half stone. Finally, I could love my body — and the reflection that stared back at me from the mirror.
